Lambert Zuidervaart in Toronto

Lambert Zuidervaart is an internationally recognized expert in Critical Theory, especially the work of Theodor Adorno, and a leading systematic philosopher in the reformational tradition. He has lectured widely in North America and Europe, and his books have appeared with top academic publishers, including Cambridge University Press, McGill-Queen’s University Press, the MIT Press, and Routledge. He has also published with religious presses such as Eerdmans and Wipf and Stock. His most recent work spells out a comprehensive and transformative conception of truth called holistic alethic pluralism, in dialogue with prominent philosophers in both the analytic and the continental traditions.

 

Lambert is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the Institute for Christian Studies (ICS), the University of Toronto, and the Toronto School of Theology, and a former faculty member at Calvin University (1985-2002) and The King’s University in Edmonton (1981-1985). At ICS (2002-2016), he held the Herman Dooyeweerd Chair in Social and Political Philosophy and served as founding Director of the Centre for Philosophy, Religion, and Social Ethics. Currently a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Philosophy at Calvin University, he and his wife, Joyce, and their dog, Ruby, live in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Lambert sings in the Chamber Choir of Grand Rapids and two other choirs.
